Golden Plains Technology Park is Online
Meta opened its first data center building within the Diode Ventures-developed Golden Plains Technology Park in August 2025. Diode’s work on the project dates back to 2020, when the company led site diligence, community engagement, and utility infrastructure coordination, to rezone the 882-acre project for a large-scale data center development. Diode then secured a Chapter 100 bond package that could provide up to $8.2 billion in incentives over 37 years in addition to structuring fixed annual payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs), a conditional agreement once the development occurs which could generate as much as $1.8 billion to support community projects for schools and other government entities.. Construction began in 2022 after Diode sold the project to Meta. Like all of Meta’s sites, the Kansas City Data center is LEED Gold certified, meaning that all its electricity use is matched with 100% clean and renewable energy. The facility’s integration of high-efficiency cooling and water conservation measures will also set a new standard for water performance in the sector.
Thanks to initial land use planning led by Diode and Meta, surrounding roads and utility infrastructure were improved throughout the course of the project. More than 1,500 highly skilled technical workers were employed during peak construction, and 100 facility operators will be employed full -time to ensure the upkeep of the data center. Teachers in a surrounding school district were given a 7.5% pay raise, the largest in their history, and the project has generated millions of dollars to construct a community career center.
